As we know, hypocalcemia is the most common complication of transition period.

Excess calcium supplementation during dry period can cause imbalance in calcium homeostasis thereby leading to milk fever/hypocalcemia.

Apart from calcium supplementation, dairy cow rations always have a positive DCAD value and above 1% calcium which also contribute towards milk fever.

During the dry period. if the DCAD of ration is positive then chances of milk fever also increases.

According to ICAR, a DCAD of -8 to -12 meq per 100g dry matter in prepartum diet reduce the chances of milk fever/hypocalcemia in dairy cattle.

Carus Laboratories came up with a product DCAD TOTAL which has a unique combination of Anionic minerals, Vitamins, Trace Minerals & Antioxidants
